Swollen Gums An Indication Of Dry Mouth
Dry mouth is one of the common cause of gum disease or Periodontitis. Before doctors used to think that dry mouth or xerostomia is common in the aging process but it isn't. Healthy adults should not be experiencing a problem with saliva. Dry mouth occurs when salivary glands is not functioning well, it increases the risk of gum and tooth problems. Medication is also one factor that causes dry mouth.
If dry mouth mouth progress it causes swollen gums, tooth decay and infection. If left untreated dry mouth will lead into halitosis or bad breath and it may even trigger certain medical condition to occur.
To prevent dry mouth take in a lot of water, cut back foods with sugar, drinks with caffeine or alcohol and tobacco. And to prevent gum disease observe proper dental health hygiene by brushing and flossing and consider using dental health care products that will aid in preventing bacteria build- up that causes infection and gum disease.
